Nail Trimming
Dogs need to have their nails trimmed regularly. It's more than just for show; overgrown nails can:

  •  Cause a dog's foot to splay which can lead to gait and  posture problems or even lameness.
  • Grow into a dog's tender pad and become infected.
  • Split, break or be torn off all together.
  • Cause damage to a person's clothing and skin as well as furniture, carpets, etc.

Frequent haircuts are even more important for dogs than for humans. Long hair requires regular brushing and is more prone to matting that can cause discomfort or even skin problems for dogs. Some breeds require little to no hair clipping or shaving, but others will require it on a monthly basis. At our facility we can determine the schedule that is most appropriate for your dog.

Hand Brushing/ Loose Hair Removal
Brushing your dog or cat's fur helps to reduce shedding, stimulates circulation and prevents parasites, such as fleas and ticks . Regular grooming can also prevent painful matting. If you encounter a clump of matted fur, use a mat comb or rake to gently loosen the fur. Please note that different coat types require different tools, all available at our facility.

Shampoo, Massage, & Blow Dry
Regular bathing keeps your pet's skin healthy and his coat clean and shiny. It also helps to remove loose hair and your pet (and your house) smells fresh. Pets should be brushed thoroughly before bathing, and shampoos that are specially designed for dogs and cats should be used. Human shampoos have a pH level that can be harmful to your pet.

Ear Cleaning & Plucking

The ears of a dog are very sensitive and susceptible to infection, excessive wax buildup and parasite infestation. A gentle cleaning with the proper products will eliminate most problems, but if constant itching, scratching or odor persists, you should see a veterinarian. Our caring professionals offer several packages that include ear cleaning/ plucking, as well as the stand alone service.

Tooth Brushing
Just like humans, dogs need their teeth brushed every day. Besides freshening their breath, it reduces tartar and helps prevent periodontal disease. Use a toothbrush and toothpaste specially designed for dogs. For chronic problems, you should consult your veterinarian. Similar to people, visits to the dentists should be supplemented by daily tooth brushing at home. While we normally visit the dentist once a year , it is imperative that your canine friend come to a professional groomer for teeth brushing much more frequently (6-8 times) to prevent periodontal disease . This disease results in loss of attachment of the teeth to those tissues. Once a bacterial infection becomes established inside of the tooth it can cause an abscess involving the bone and soft tissues around the tooth. If the infection involves the first molar tooth on the mandible, it may cause enough destruction of the bone or the lower jaw to cause a pathologic fracture.
